Secret London

It's so good having friends to stay - today we have spent the day exploring London, partly as tourists but also trying to discover more of the mosaic space invaders I brought to Shan's attention a few months back. I knew where this one was:

It's by the Old Truman Brewery which now houses the Vibe Bar on Brick Lane.

But what I hadn't realised was that there are 2 more in the very close vicinity.

First of all there is this large white and black invader on the way from Spitalfields market to Brick Lane just opposite the Sunday Upmarket. It's huge so I don't think it really counts as a space invader - in fact I think it is a copy of another one somewhere else in London. However, I think the reason I haven't noticed this before is because normally the RouteMaster restaurant is usually parked there.

But turning around, what did we see? But ANOTHER space invader - and this one a genuine one! Sadly because he was so high up and I only had my iPhone with me so I didn't get a particularly good picture, but still - I know where it is now so I will have to go back soon...

Hurray! So after that we decided we'd try and track some more invaders down... A little bit of research told us there were about 75 of these cute little guys around and about  - lots around the East End. So we went on a bit of a search. We have been doing lots of other things as well so we didn't have a huge amount of time to go looking. However, after a bit of searching we did come across this little guy on Curtain Road. We thought we'd find another by Hoxton Square but to no avail - lots of cool street graffitti but no invaders. Apparently there are some around Covent Garden so we might have to go looking around there tomorrow...

Very cool - I love things like this. We had a trip to Brighton a while ago and there's a grafitti artist who paints the old switch boxes as casette tapes. I put some pics on my blog if you fancy a look. Lots of brilliant street grafitti there too. x http://thesockgarden.wordpress.com/2010/09/29/brighton-graffiti/
